'Not possible!': Steve Bruce puts end to transfer talk

Steve Bruce says Dwight Gayle is going nowhere in this month’s transfer window.

Gayle limped out of yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers after being handed a rare Premier League start at Molineux.

Aston Villa are the latest club to be linked with the 29-year-old striker, who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Head coach Bruce said: “How many times? I’ve been asked about Dwight time and time again. Why am I going to let him go on loan – and to where? Not possible, especially with the (injury) problems we’ve got.

“As I’ve said from day one, I’ve waited for him for two-and-a-half months, because he’s been injured, and then the team has done OK. He’s found it a struggle to get in, but I’ve started him twice in the last four or five games. He was excellent (against Wolves), so he’s not going anywhere. Quite simple.”
