The Magpies players put in a shift from 1-11 (and the subs) on the park but how did our man Liam Kennedy rate each man? Here's his player ratings with a much-improved Joelinton coming in for some praise as well as United’s back three of Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark and returning skipper Jamaal Lascelles.
1. Emil Krafth - 5
Looks ill-equipped for the Premier League. Makes too many mistakes with and without the ball. | Getty Images Photo: Ian MacNicol
2. Jamaal Lascelles - 7
Having the skipper back seemed to glue things together for Newcastle United in the heart of defence. | JPIMedia Photo: Martin Swinney
3. Ciaran Clark - 7
Aggressive in the tackle, kept the Chelsea frontmen at bay. Say it time and time again, Clark never lets United down. | Getty Images Photo: Alex Livesey
4. Isaac Hayden - 7
Solid in midfield, as ever, and again showed his versatile side with a stint at right wing-back against some lively Chelsea widemen. Popped up with a late, late winner. | Getty Images Photo: Ian MacNicol
