9. Bin Zayed Group
BZG released a number of statements claiming they had agreed a deal for the Magpies but after months of will they? won’t they? It proved another devastating false dawn for supporters. Photo: Getty Images
10. Peter Kenyon and GACP Sports
Kenyon was back on the scene - this time with GACP Sports and Joseph DaGrosa. A 46-page brochure circulated in the press - and although detailed, it was littered with basic errors. DaGrosa revealed to the Gazette in May the bid was more advanced than people thought. Photo: ROMAIN PERROCHEAU
11. PCP, Reuben brothers, PIF
The Saudi-led consortium agreed a £300m deal with Ashley, which was sent to the Premier League to undergo its owners and directors test in April. However, 17 weeks later and still no decision, PIF withdrew their bid. Ashley still wants to sell to the trio and shares fans’ hopes of the deal being revived. Photo: -
12. Henry Mauriss
Mauriss reportedly claimed he was willing to pay £350m for Newcastle, weeks after PCP had agreed a £300m deal, and was ready to step in IF the Saudi bid failed. A lot of noise, but the unknown US media mogul has done nothing to erase fan scepticism. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
