And that has proved to be the case with the Magpies today, with reports again linking them with Juventus defender Radu Dragusin.
The 19-year-old Romanian is out of contract in June, which has reportedly caught the attention of United, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Italian giants Juve have been keen to tie the promising centre-half down to a new deal but the saga has dragged on since around January time.
However, according to Calciomercato via Sport Witness, "the decisive summit” i.e a contract agreement, is due to take place next week.
It is claimed that “barring sensational twists”, Dragusin will officially turn down interest from Newcastle by putting pen to a paper on a five-year deal at Juventus.
In the defensive area, Steve Bruce and co have decisions to make of their own.
As it stands, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar are out of contract this summer – although United do hold a one-year option on the latter.
Meanwhile, a former Newcastle academy product is said to be on the radar of Everton.
