The Magpies drew with Manchester United and Watford before picking up three consecutive wins against Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa. A draw at West Ham United stopped the streak of victories but Eddie Howe’s side returned to winning ways at Brentford before beating Brighton and Southampton.
The run has seen United climb from 19th to 14th in the table, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
Newcastle have now gone on their longest winless run and longest unbeaten run in over a decade, all in the same season. A fact that epitomises the club’s turnaround under Howe.
Here we look at Newcastle’s longest unbeaten runs in the Premier League over the course of the same season. We won’t be including the 11 or 17 game unbeaten streaks in the Championship in 2016-17 and 2009-10 respectively, only Premier League matches since the club were promoted in 1993.

9. 1996-97: 10 games
The end of the 1996-97 season saw Newcastle go on a 10 game unbeaten run to finish second in the Premier League under Kenny Dalglish. The run included five wins and five draws. The Magpies extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches after winning their opening two games the following season only for the run to end with a 3-1 defeat against Wimbledon. Photo: Stu Forster

10. 1994-95: 11 games
Newcastle's best ever start to a Premier League season saw them win nine and draw two of their opening 11 league matches. They had also won the final game of the previous season, which would extend the run to 12 matches. They were finally beaten in October by Manchester United and ended the season in sixth after winning just two of 13 matches following the unbeaten run. Photo: Chris Cole

11. 1995-96: 11 games
Newcastle's best ever Premier League season saw them come within touching distance of the Premier League title. A run of 11 games unbeaten between September and December saw Kevin Keegan's side extend their gap at the top of the table. A run of eight wins and three draws was eventually stopped by Chelsea. The Magpies ultimately blew a 12 point lead to finish second. Photo: Ben Radford

12. 2011-12: 11 games
Newcastle's best season in recent times saw them start with an 11 game unbeaten streak which included seven wins and four draws. Alan Pardew's time at the club was characterised by contrasting runs of form but this was certainly one of the highlights which set the tone of a memorable campaign against the odds. The Magpies also ended the 2010-11 season three games unbeaten, meaning their unbeaten run was officially 14 matches over two seasons by the time Manchester City beat them 3-1 in November 2011. They ended the season in fifth which marks the most recent time the club qualified for European football. Photo: Clive Brunskill
