The Magpies are without a win in nine games and are sliding towards the Premier League bottom three following their comprehensive 3-0 loss to Arsenal on Monday evening.

Fans have hit out at Bruce and prominent Newcastle United fan group Toon for Change are calling for Mike Ashley to act now and sack Bruce before it is too late for the Magpies’ Premier League status.

And now the bookmakers have slashed odds on Bruce being the next top flight boss sacked. Both Betfair and SkyBet have Bruce as favourite to be axed.

Betfair Spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Following last night’s defeat, Newcastle have now won just one game in their last ten in all competitions and things are heating up for Steve Bruce, as he is now the favourite in the betting to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post.

"Just one month ago he was 20/1 to be sacked, however their form has gone rapidly down hill since then and he is now 6/5 to go.”

Newcastle United sit 15th in the top flight table, seven points above Fulham, who have a game in hand, in third bottom.

Toon For Change’s Joe Chilcott says the group are actively campaigning for immediate removal of Bruce as manager of United, in what is turning into a ‘nightmare’ season at St James’s Park.
