Paul Dummett left disappointed at Newcastle United
Paul Dummett is set to sit out Newcastle United’s remaining games – despite returning to fitness.
The defender was left out of the club’s revised 25-man Premier League squad once the January transfer window closed, having suffered a season-ending hamstring injury.
Dummett has now recovered from the injury, and he was hoping that the squad rules would be relaxed ahead of next week’s restart.
Speaking earlier this month, the 28-year-old said: “I've spoken to the manager (Steve Bruce) about the squad situation. He's hopeful, and the club are hopeful, that the rules will be relaxed and changed. Whether we can add extra players to the 25-man squad, or resubmit the 25-man squad, we'll have to see what happens."
Premier League clubs, however, have reportedly voted against allowing changes to squads ahead of next week’s restart. The Daily Mail report that “special dispensation” will be needed from the Premier League for any changes.
