The left-back played an hour of the Magpies’ under-23 side’s 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League 2, Division 2 – as did fellow first-team defender Ciaran Clark.

The 29-year-old made his long-awaited return to action having not kicked a ball competitively since January 11.

Dummett suffered a tendon problem in that game and then on his friendly return against Middlesbrough in pre-season was also forced off early with a muscle injury.
