The additions of Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes in January all helped the Magpies secure their Premier League status with all five continuing to play their role in United’s progress this season.
Their position entering January was precarious to say the least last year, however, they will enter the winter window this time around firmly in the hunt for a European place.
Will Newcastle look to strengthen once again? Or will they keep some money back to spend in summer when business is a lot easier to complete?

9. Christian Pulisic
Pulisic’s game time at Chelsea has increased under Graham Potter, however, he is still being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. It is unlikely that Chelsea will want to see Pulisic join one of their rivals for a European place in January however. Photo: Bryn Lennon
10. Cody Drameh
The Leeds United youngster hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot at Elland Road and reports that he may leave the club have circulated. Both Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the defender. Photo: George Wood
11. Leandro Trossard
Brighton winger Trossard has had a fantastic season - form that has alerted Newcastle United to the possibility of a transfer in January. Chelsea, led by former Seagulls boss Graham Potter, have also been linked with a move for the Belgian. Photo: GLYN KIRK
12. Armando Broja
Another player Newcastle tracked this summer but were unable to land is Broja. January is approaching and he has been unable to force himself into Graham Potter’s regular first-team plans - could a January loan move be on the cards? Photo: Justin Setterfield
