Premier League table since Newcastle takeover: United’s impressive position compared to Leeds, Everton & Co.

It has been a wirlwind year for Newcastle United.

October 7, 2021 was the day Newcastle United were finally sold to a consortium led by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

Since then, Newcastle have gone from prime relegation candidates to a side who look capable of competing at the right end of the table.

Following the takeover, Newcastle have played 39 Premier League games, almost exactly a regular season’s worth of fixtures.

The won just one of their opening 13 league matches under new ownership before emphatically turning things around.

Hypothetically, what if the Premier League season started on the day of the takeover and ended exactly one year on?

Obviously the likes of Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham have played just eight Premier League games over the past 12 months following their promotion from the Championship while Norwich City, Watford and Burnley have been limited to 31 matches as a result of their relegation from the top flight in May.

Taking all of that into account, here is how the Premier League table would look from October 7, 2021 to October 7, 2022.

Following the takeover, Newcastle have played 39 Premier League games, almost exactly a regular season’s worth of fixtures.
