Ex-Newcastle United man rejects Premier League return as Jorgen Strand Larsen move thrown into doubt
Newcastle United transfer news: One former Magpies player has reportedly rejected the chance to return to England on transfer deadline day.
Newcastle United are expected to have a quiet deadline day, certainly in terms of incomings, but there are still plenty of headline-grabbing transfers happening around the Premier League and in Europe.
Here, we take a look at the latest transfer news from around the Premier League, including updates on what could be the biggest deal of the day and how one former Newcastle United player has rejected the chance to return to England:
Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace transfer news
One of the biggest deals that could be completed between now and tonight’s 7pm deadline is Jorgen Strand Larsen’s move from Molineux to Selhurst Park. The Norwegian international has been linked with a move away from Wolves throughout the window, with a cloud hanging over his long-term future at the club ever since the summer window.
At that time, Newcastle United were the club to chase his signature, offering up to £60m during the final full week of the transfer window to lure him to St James’ Park. Wolves, though, remained firm in their stance that he was not for sale as the Magpie turned their attention elsewhere to Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
After impressing during his debut campaign in England, Strand Larsen has followed that up with a disappointing season that has seen him net just one Premier League goal. Leeds United and Nottingham Forest had shown an interest in the striker in the early weeks of the window, but heading into the final hours, it seems that Crystal Palace will be his next destination.

A fee of up to £48m in all would be paid by Palace for Strand Larsen - around £12m less than Newcastle United were reportedly willing to pay for him during the summer. Strand Larsen has completed a medical in London, but confirmation of his move may only come if Jean-Philppe Mateta leaves to join AC Milan.
That move has been thrown into doubt, though, with reports from Italy suggesting that Milan will not proceed with a move for the Frenchman.
Ivan Toney ‘rejects’ Premier League return
Sky Sports report that former Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney has rejected the chance to return to the Premier League this month. Toney is currently out in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli, the side he joined when leaving Brentford during the 2024 summer transfer window.
With a World Cup on the horizon at the end of the season, Toney will be keen to force himself into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. The 29-year-old was called-up by Tuchel in June and featured as a late substitute during their 3-1 defeat to Senegal.
However, he was subsequently omitted from Tuchel’s next three international squads. In Saudi Arabia, Toney has scored 26 goals in 28 matches this season, including a record better than a goal every game in the Saudi Pro League. According to those reports from Sky Sports, an unnamed Premier League duo had shown interest in the former Brentford and Magpies man alongside Serie A giants Juventus. However, Toney will instead remain in the Saudi Pro League.
