Only last summer, Bayern Munich attempted a deal for Reading's Omar Richards.
Indeed, the 2020/21 season has seen a number of Championship players put themselves in the shop window for a big move this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle United look to invest in further talent this summer.
But if they do, the Magpies will look to dip into the division below to snap up some shrewd signings on bargain deals.
Could the Magpies need to replace Miguel Almiron?
Almiron, a popular figure on Tyneside, touched on his future at Newcastle United – and one particular comment was labelled as “alarming”.
Here, we take a look at some of the Championship brightest young starlets stars who the Magpies could target in the upcoming summer transfer window:

5. Harvey Elliott - Liverpool (loan)
He's destined for big things, but, at the age of 17, he's likely to be given another season or two out on loan. The tenacious winger has scored five goals and made nine assists for Blackburn Rovers so far this season. Photo: Alex Livesey

6. Bryan Mbeumo - Brentford
Eyebrows were raised when Mbeumo opted not to move on last season, after a stellar 2019/20 campaign in which the winger scored 15 goals. He's capable of playing on either wing, too, which is a bit of a bonus. Photo: Gareth Copley

7. Harry Wilson - Liverpool (loan)
The set-piece sensation has been on loan with five clubs in as many years, with Liverpool still not willing to give him a chance to prove himself at Anfield. He's overdue a permanent move elsewhere to continue building his career. Photo: George Wood

8. Joao Pedro - Watford
Do Watford have another Richarlison on there hands? Quite possibly. Plucked from Brazilian side Fluminese - just like Richarlison - the 19-year-old has done well for a the Championship club this season. Photo: Gareth Copley
