Newcastle United transfers: The Magpies have once again been linked with a move for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.

Ferran Torres has been once again been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, with reports from Spain suggesting that the Magpies are willing to pay €20m for the Spanish international. Torres has spent the last two-and-a-half years at the Camp Nou following a £55m move, with add-ons included, from Manchester City.

Reports surrounding Torres with a move back to the Premier League to St James’ Park have had cold water poured on them recently, however, with the Magpies interested in signing a right-winger this summer, the Spaniard would perfectly fit the mould of players that they could look to sign this summer. Torres has proven he can cut it in the Premier League and at just 24 years of age, he still has time to develop.

Newcastle United were shown first-hand of Torres’ immense quality during his time at City when he netted a superb hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side scored a 4-3 win against the Magpies at an empty St James’ Park - a game that marked Newcastle’s last league game in front of no fans. In a match that saw Emil Krafth score his first ever Newcastle United goal, Joelinton score from the penalty spot and Joe Willock continue his stunning run of form in-front of goal, it was Torres and his 24-minute hat-trick that ran away with the headlines.

His first goal was a particularly stunning effort as his audacious flick from a whipped free-kick sailed over Martin Dubravka and into the far corner to put his side 2-1 up. His second was a well directed strike from a low cross whilst his third saw Torres demonstrate his poacher’s instinct as he pounced on an effort from Joao Cancelo that came back off the post to tap home past Dubravka for his third of the night.

Newcastle United are in the market for a right-winger this summer with Michael Olise among the names linked with a move to Tyneside. However, reports earlier this week hinted that he may be on his way from Selhurst Park to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s options ahead of his debut campaign as Blues boss.
