Revealed! The best value goalkeepers in the Premier League - and how Karl Darlow measures up
With usual number one Martin Dubravka injured for the first part of the campaign, deputy stopper Karl Darlow stepped in to fill his boots to great effect, only to be dropped from the starting XI against Wolves and West Brom.
Given the form that Darlow had shown for the vast majority of his stint with the first team, there will have been those in the club's fanbase who questioned the decision to bring Dubravka back into the side, and it’s hard to argue with his statistics.
So far this season, the 30-year-old has conceded 44 goals in all competitions despite having an xCG (expected goals conceded) of 48.85.
That means that he has prevented nearly five almost certain goals.
As a point of reference, Dubravka has prevented 0.76 xG during his two games in the Premier League this term.
But how has Darlow measured up compared to some of the other goalkeepers in the top flight this season?
BettingOdds.com have compiled a study to determine who the Premier League’s most cost effective goalkeeper has been in 2020/21.
By analysing each stopper's annual salary and comparing it to the number of saves they have made so far this season, the data reveals which clubs are getting the best value for money between the sticks.
