But there is hope. Hope that fans can return to stadiums next season and once again, passionately cheer on their team from the terraces, this time, most likely with a tear in the eye.
And as always, the United faithful will be required to travel some hard miles in order to follow Steve Bruce’s men on the road. After all, it is very rare that they don’t sell out the away end.
