Keane spoke about Bruce – and the club – ahead of this afternoon’s 2-1 win over Everton at St James’s Park.

The Sky Sports pundit backed Bruce, his former Manchester United team-mate, at the club.

“There was no doubt in my mind when Brucie got the job he was going to do a good job,” said Keane. “He’s vastly experienced. I know he’s been criticised for (Newcastle) not being very exciting to watch, but I don’t think they have the players for it. Newcastle haven’t been exciting for years, and even when they were exciting they never won anything, so I don’t know why everyone gets too worried about that.

“I they’ll certainly be in and around mid-table, and that’s down to Bruce. I don’t think they will be exciting to watch. I don’t think that will change quickly.”
