After a very quiet winter window, Newcastle United could be very active in the summer market. Last season’s Champions League qualification successes seem a long time ago now with the Magpies currently sat in 10th place with just ten games of the season to go.
Of course, injury and suspension issues have played their part so far this season, but the club will be keen to ensure that next year is a more fruitful campaign for them. Profit and Sustainability Rules may be changing, but United will still have to be mindful of what they spend in the market, despite their desire to do a lot of business.
In order to fund transfers, therefore, they may be forced to sell some of their players this summer. Newcastle have not had a good track record in trading players in the recent past and this summer is a crucial time for them to get that right if they want to reshape the look and makeup of Eddie Howe’s current squad.
Here, we assess Newcastle United’s current squad and give our view on what the club should do with every player during the summer transfer window. Do you agree with our thoughts? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there:

17. Joelinton - Keep
The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season and getting an agreement over a new one is of paramount importance. If no new deal can be agreed then there is a chance he could be sold, however, their priority must be to keep him at the club. | AFP via Getty Images

18. Lewis Miley - Loan
Miley has impressed this season and it may be harsh to see him out of the first-team picture next campaign. However, the club need to decide whether his development is best served on Tyneside where he may not get as many games as this season, or whether a loan move where he can play week in and week out would be best. | Getty Images

19. Bruno Guimaraes - Keep
Guimaraes simply must be kept at the club this summer. His sale may unlock their ability to spend in the transfer market but losing him would mean they have a huge gap to fill in their squad. | Getty Images

20. Sandro Tonali - Keep
Tonali will be keen to hit the ground running once his suspension from football has finished. The Italian has shown just a glimpse of what he is capable of in a black-and-white shirt. | Getty Images
