Sky pundit singles out Newcastle as 'biggest worry' in Premier League relegation battle

Former Premier League striker Bobby Zamora has claimed that Newcastle United’s off-field issues could ultimately lead to their relegation this season.

The Magpies made headlines last week when it emerged that manager Steve Bruce and winger Matt Ritchie had been involved in a heated confrontation at the club’s training ground in the aftermath of the recent 1-1 draw against Wolves.

The Toon Army did little to alleviate their relegation fears when they played out a drab 0-0 stalemate against fellow strugglers West Brom on Sunday either, and now find themselves just one point outside of the bottom three following Fulham’s shock 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Monday afternoon, Zamora admitted that he has doubts over Newcastle’s survival chances.

He said: “It’s that belief, it’s that changing room, at this time of year.

"When the pressure mounts, is there bickering in the changing rooms? Are there things off the pitch? Are there arguments with the managers?

"Those are the parts that play such a big part in staying in the division.

"At the minute, from the outside looking at Newcastle, they probably look like the biggest worry in terms of what’s going on off the pitch.

"It’s such a huge club, but I think they’ve got some huge worries going on there.”

Newcastle’s next outing is against Aston Villa on Friday evening, before the trip to face Brighton eight days later.

For their part, Albion are outside of the drop zone on goal difference alone after losing to Leicester City over the weekend.
