Steve Bruce swerved the chance to give an injury update on striker Callum Wilson – but did discuss why three players were not named in Newcastle United’s Premier League squad on Sunday.

With Wilson, fellow striker Andy Carroll, Ryan Fraser and Federico Fernandez were all missing from the Magpies’ bench and starting line-up for the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.

And when asked about the fitness of the foursome, Bruce gave updates on three but did not confirm or deny whether top-scorer Wilson, who has netted 10 goals this term, would be available for next weekend’s trip to Burnley’s Turf Moor.

“All the ones not on the bench are all injured,” he said.

"All of the players have been missing with injury.”
