Steve Bruce demands more 'respect' at Newcastle United from journalists

Steve Bruce has demanded more “respect” from the journalists who report on Newcastle United.

Bruce did not speak to written journalists before Tuesday night’s home defeat to Leeds United, and the relegation-threatened club’s head coach has spoken to BT Sport about that decision ahead of this afternoon’s game against Everton at Goodison Park.

“For me, I’ve got no problem with criticism,” said Bruce, who questions from three written journalists yesterday. “It’s the constant criticism of the club, and when it comes to ridicule, then I think there should be a little bit more respect. We accept criticism. We’re getting beat. It’s the Premier League.

"I give up my time, and I give them respect to speak to them. Yes, they can be pretty damning. We all accept that, but have a little bit of respect.”

Newcastle, 16th in the Premier League with 19 points, are without a win in 11 games in all competitions.
