And United’s head coach, speaking after the Liverpool game, floated the idea of bringing them back next season – again on loan.

Asked if he had spoken to the trio about the futures, Bruce said: “I’ve let them go on their way, because communication, now, is so easy.

"We’ll have to have conversations with their respective clubs and look to see if we can make any of them permanent, or, the alternative is can we have them again for another year on loan. Let’s see what the situation is, and how that develops.”

Midfielder Bentaleb, 25, joined from Schalke 04, where he had been frozen out, while winger Lazaro joined from Inter Milan. There is understood to be a £20million buy option in the 24-year-old’s loan deal.

Defender Rose is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur, and the 30-year-old is keen to extend his stay at Newcastle.

Speaking earlier this month, Rose said: “For me, I’d love to play for Newcastle for longer than what’s on my contract. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that my days possibly are numbered at Spurs, and I’m playing for my future.”
