Benrahma, who was signed by the Bees from Nice for just £1.5million, has scored eight goals this term – including a hat-trick in a 5-1 win a Hull City last weekend.

Aston Villa were keen admirers of the winger but if they are to revisit a deal, they are tipped to face stern competition.

Reports in France earlier in the season suggested the Algerian was keen on a move to the Premier League and the Magpies are reportedly weighing up a £15m bid.

Bruce missed out on Jarrod Bowen last month after he joined West Ham United on deadline day.
