The striker missed last night’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round defeat to Arsenal along with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. However, Wilson and Shelvey could be involved in Tuesday night’s Premier League game against Sheffield United, according to head coach Bruce.

Asked why Wilson and Shelvey were not involved against Arsenal, Bruce said: “Purely precaution. Hopefully, we’ll leave it with the medical people, and (they will) be ready for Tuesday.”

In Wilson’s absence, Andy Carroll led the line against Arsenal, and the striker had United’s best chance at the Emirates Stadium.

Bruce said: "I thought Andy did fantastically well. If he had topped it off by scoring a goal, it would have been good for him. There were a lot of pleasing things. We've had a tough run of fixtures, but we dust ourselves down and go again."
