Joelinton was forced off in last night’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United with a groin injury. Steve Bruce – who has lost 10-goal Callum Wilson until April with a hamstring problem – had recalled Joelinton to his starting XI at Old Trafford.

The score was 1-1 when Joelinton went on, and United's head coach said: “The big turning point for me was the loss of big Joe. We were already without our main centre-forward, so we hope he's not too serious. It’s a groin problem, so we’re not quite sure yet, and he’s not quite sure. It’s difficult.”

Newcastle remain three points above the Premier League's relegation zone after the defeat.

Speaking to BT Sport, Bruce said: "We were disrupted when we lost Joelinton, it's difficult to replace him, but I was pleased with an hour. When you come here, you've got to be good for 90 minutes.”
