Wilson started last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at St James’s Park after fully recovering from a hamstring problem – and will lead the line against Leicester City tomorrow night. However, defender Fabian Schar will serve the first game of a three-match ban after the club lost an appeal over his red card for a challenge on Gabriel Martinelli.

“Everybody’s OK,” said head coach Bruce. “As you probably know, we’ve lost the appeal with Fab, so unfortunately he’s not available. But everybody’s come through unscathed from the weekend.”

On Wilson, Bruce added: “He’s over his injury, which is vitally important. He’s had 90 minutes under his belt. That’s good for him and his mental state, that he knows his hamstring’s OK.”

Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League, and nine points above the relegation zone, ahead of the Leicester game.
