Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar and Javier Manquillo are set to be missing until April with the injuries they suffered in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St James’s Park.

However, Bruce will have Ciaran Clark – who was absent last weekend after his partner went into labour – back for Monday night’s game against Chelsea, while Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez, recovering from muscle problems, are “touch and go” for the fixture Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a long time until Monday, but Clark, definitely,” said United's head coach. “We’re hoping, fingers crossed, with Jamaal and Feddy. So, yeah, two of them are touch and go, and Ciaran Clark will be definitely OK.”

Newcastle are 16th in the Premier League table – and 10 points above the relegation zone – after winning two of their last three top-flight games.
