The defender returned from the hamstring problem which kept him out most of last year before Christmas. However, Dummett was forced off against Sheffield United last week with what Steve Bruce described at the time as “fatigue”. The 29-year-old had played 120 minutes in an FA Cup tie against Arsenal three days before the club’s visit to Bramall Lane.
"He's not right for the weekend,” said Bruce. “Unfortunately, Paul's had an awful time because of injuries and hamstrings and this, that and the other.”

Hide AdBruce says he had wanted to take Dummett off against Arsenal. However, United's head coach instead took off Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Jamaal Lascelles, Emil Krafth and Andy Carroll.
“Against Arsenal in the cup, I tried to take him off, but other people were flagging before he was,” said Bruce. “Unfortunately he stayed on the pitch a bit too long. It's been difficult for him. He's not fit."
