Almiron was ruled out until next month with the knee injury he suffered against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

However, speaking to the BBC after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, Steve Bruce , also waiting on Callum Wilson (hamstring) and Allan Saint-Maximin (groin), suggested that the midfielder could be involved in Saturday’s game against rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

"We will see how they progress, of course,” said United's head coach. "It's going to be a little too early for Callum, we can already dismiss that. Miggy’s a different option. He’s going along very, very nicely so we'll keep our fingers crossed."

Almiron has been spared a lengthy journey to Paraguay later this month after South America’s next round of World Cup qualifiers were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
