Newcastle United news: Steve Bruce latest as Magpies and Tottenham prepare to miss out on free agent deal

Newcastle United are deep in relegation trouble but Steve Bruce lives to fight another day, despite discontent from supporters.

Frustration, anger and sadness is high among Magpies fans as their team continues to plummet towards a disastrous outcome in the 2020/21 season.

Fulham’s upturn in form, coupled with United’s demise of eight defeat in 10 matches – and a run of two wins in 16 – has left the club just three points above the drop zone.

With the prospect of suffering a third relegation under Mike Ashley, fans are desperate for the United owner to act or for Bruce to vacate his role at St James’s Park.

But according to the Daily Telegraph, there are no plans to sack the 60-year-old ahead of this weekend’s crunch Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is claimed Bruce’s job at his boyhood club is safe with Newcastle not considering a change in manager and that Ashley retains a “hands-off” approach when it comes to making decisions.

Indeed, the football club is apparently “low on the list of business priorities at the moment” for Ashley, who is the chief executive of Frasers Group.

In other Bruce news, the Daily Mirror has come up with seven candidates that are likely to be on the radar of United, should Bruce finally be is relieved of his duties.

It includes Rafa Benitez, Roberto Martinez, Graeme Jones, Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Alan Pardew.

Meanwhile, Corriere dello Sport report that Juventus are “cautiously optimistic” about retaining Newcastle target Radu Dragusin.

It was also reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport on Sunday that the 19-year-old is close to agreeing a new five-year deal with Juve.

Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are among the English clubs to be linked with the Romanian, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign,
