That’s the view of Steve Bruce ahead of tomorrow night’s relegation six-pointer against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Joelinton has been starting as a right-sided “split striker” during Callum Wilson’s absence through injury. The £40million signing – who has scored one Premier League goal so far this season – did well outside the box in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Villa, but was let down by his decision making inside the area.

“I thought Joelinton, arguably, had his best game in a Newcastle shirt,” said head coach Bruce. “I thought he was terrific on the night. But, of course, a striker has to top it off by scoring a goal. He understands that, but his overall performance was very, very good. I thought he led the line very, very well.”

Joelinton is expected to continue up front against Brighton with Wilson still sidelined.
