Under-fire Bruce led to the Magpies into an unbeaten April, where wins against Burnley and West Ham, plus draw with Tottenham and Liverpool, eased relegation fears.

With four games remaining, United are nine points above the relegation zone. Victory against Leicester City at the King Power Stadiu tonight will all but guarantee another season of top-flight football.

A large number of supporters strongly demanded the 60-year-old was sacked after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion but he has somewhat justified Mike Ashley’s decision to stick by him.

Bruce will be up against Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa and West Brom’s Sam Allardyce.

Voting is now open and will run until 6pm on Monday. Bruce will find out next week if he has won the award.
