Lazaar was released from his contract six months early – ending his disastrous spell on Tyneside by joining Watford until the end of the season.
The Moroccan left having made just 10 appearances in four-and-half years, yet Henri Saivet somehow beats that record.
Saivet, 30, joined the Magpies in January 2016, which has arguably turned out to be one of the most bizarre transfers in the club’s history.
He’s appeared just eight times for the first-team in that time, his last coming in January 2018 during an FA Cup tie at Chelsea.
The Senegalese midfielder is only a few months away from ending his Newcastle nightmare with his contract set to expire this summer, but according to Ghana Web, he might not have to wait that long.
United are seeking to release Saivet before his current expiry date after Christian Atsu was selected ahead of him in Steve Bruce’s 25-man squad.
If Saivet is to leave in the coming weeks, he’ll still have to wait until the summer to join a new club as he’d be released outside the transfer window.
Looking ahead to the summer, Steve Bruce is willing to reignite his interest in Ozan Kabak, if Liverpool opt against signing the Turkish international.
There were strong suggestions Kabak was on his way to Newcastle on loan in January before Jurgen Klopp’s men swept in.
The Reds negotiated a loan until the end of the season with a view to buy option of £18million.
Should Liverpool decide not to keep him permanently, Bruce is prepared to offer him a chance of remaining in England, as per the Daily Mirror.
On the evidence of his debut at Leicester City on Saturday, the 20-year-old still has some convincing to do as he and goalkeeper Alisson gifted the home side a second-half goal.
Meanwhile, the Magpies have reportedly been offered the chance to sign a free agent striker.
