Steve Bruce reveals Joelinton fear after FA Cup injury

Joelinton was forced off after scoring against Oxford United at Kassam Stadium last night – and Bruce fears that he has damaged a rib.

Newcastle United won 3-2 after extra time to book a fifth-round tie away to Championship club West Bromwich Albion.

“We missed a bit of a focal point when Joe went off, and that sums our luck up,” said head coach Bruce. “He makes one, scores one, and then he has to come off. Let’s hope he hasn’t cracked a rib or damaged a rib. We’ll have to see.”

Allan Saint-Maximin scored a 116th-minute injury-time winner for Newcastle, who were pegged back after leading 2-0. Bruce said: “If there was ever an FA Cup game to grab a hold of you, then this was probably it. I thought, overall, the better team won the cup tie.”
