The Magpies boss has revealed he has at least five first-team players training with the club’s under-23 squad, away from the main group.

And it is imperative some of those players leave, before he can add the two players he wants before the end of the transfer window on Monday, October 5.

"We can't just keep collecting them (players),” said Bruce when asked about whether he needs to sell to buy in the remainder of this window.

"We've got five or six training with the under-23s.

“It's not going to be healthy at all for anyone so that's got to be part of the remit between now and the end of the window.

“We'll see. As I've said, I've been delighted with what we've done. We've brought in four or five new players and I'm sure they will be really good additions to the squad. At this particular moment, only two have gone so we have to try and make room and let others move on as well.”

One player on the list of players Bruce is keen to shift, along with the likes of Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar, is DeAndre Yedlin.

The USA international has less than one year left on his current deal – and despite being able to command a fee United are believed to be keen to allow the player to leave on a free, with Turkish outfit Besiktas monitoring the situation, along with a host of German and MLS sides.

“DeAndre is one of them where we have three right backs on our books. He will play tonight,” said Bruce of his full-back.

“I have got huge respect for him because he has done very well since I came to the club.

“It might be the situation where he has to find a new home or whatever. He is a great pro, a great lad and has done well with the club. We will see how that develops over the next two or three weeks.”
