Steve Bruce signals possible end of first-teamer's Newcastle United career

Steve Bruce is considering moving on Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin.

Bruce needs to trim his squad between now and October 5, when the transfer window closes.

The club has already loaned out Florian Lejeune – the defender has joined Alaves – and forward Yoshinori Muto is set to join Eibar on loan. Bruce also wants to move out Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar, while Jacob Murphy and Dan Barlaser could again be loaned out.

The highest-profile departure, however, could be 27-year-old Yedlin, who joined in the summer of 2017 from Tottenham Hotspur, and is in the final year of his contract.

Bruce has three right-backs – Yedlin, Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth – and that’s one too many.

“Yedlin is one of them where, at the moment, I’ve got three right-backs,” said head coach Bruce. “So I’ll look at that situation.

"I like DeAndre. He’s done nothing wrong since I’ve been here at the club. But we’ll look at the situation. To have three is not that healthy.”

Bruce doesn’t want an “unhealthy” situation whereby he has players at the club’s training ground who aren’t in his Premier League squad.

“Muto’s gone off to Eibar. Flo went to Spain,” said Bruce, speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s behind-closed-doors Carabao Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers at St James’s Park.

"I remember having a conversation with Henri Saivet last year, and Jack Colback, who didn’t make the 22. They weren’t taking part in anything, which is unhealthy for them and for us.

"I’ll be having conversations. I think it’s no secret that Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons and Henri Saivet ... they need to go and get their careers up and moving again. So we’ll see what happens in that department.”

Jacob Murphy and Dan Barlaser could again be loaned out, having spent last season with Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United respectively, but in the meantime they will be in the squad for the Blackburn game.

“Murphy and Barlaser, who didn’t make the squad (for West Ham United), and having done anything wrong in pre-season, will both be involved,” said Bruce.
