Bruce's side, 11th in the Premier League with 22 points, take on 13th-placed Burnley this afternoon looking to make it three wins in a row.

Bruce, without injured quartet Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Jonjo Shelvey and Ciaran Clark, has recalled Andy Carroll, Christian Atsu, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar to his starting XI. Carroll will captain the team.

“With muscle injuries, I don't think you can take that risk,” said United’s head coach. “If at all they are struggling, you can't risk it. If they pulled up and then they're out for a month, six weeks, we'll all look stupid, so we'll err on the side of caution, even though we've got a few problems.”

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Dubravka; Manquillo, Fernandez, Schar, Dummett, Willems; Atsu, S Longstaff, Hayden, Joelinton; Carroll. Subs: Elliot, Gayle, Muto, Krafth, Lejeune, Yedlin, M Longstaff.
