Sven Botman official injury update as Newcastle United duo set for scans
Two players dropped out of Newcastle United’s squad against Everton due to injury.
Newcastle United have been dealt two fresh injury blows in the past week with Nick Pope and Sven Botman dropping out of the matchday squad for the trip to Everton.

Both players made the trip to Marseille in the Champions League in midweek with Botman named on the bench and Pope making a costly goalkeeping error that saw his place in the side called into question ahead of the match.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe admitted he was reluctant to rotate his goalkeeper in his pre-match press conference before a training ground injury made the decision for him.
“Nick Pope felt something in his groin in training, and it was painful enough for him not to travel,” Howe said. “He'll go for a scan in the next few days.”
Aaron Ramsdale came into the side in Pope’s absence to make his full Premier League debut for Newcastle.
Sven Botman official injury update
Howe revealed ahead of the match that Botman has been ‘nursing’ a back issue after the Marseille match and subsequently dropped out of the squad as Newcastle secured a 4-1 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.
Malick Thiaw opened the scoring in the first minute before Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade put The Magpies 3-0 up at half-time. Thiaw then made it 4-0 in the second half before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall grabbed a consolation.
After the match, Howe provided an update on Botman’s back issue as is set for a specialist consultation.
“He's going to see a specialist,” Howe told The Gazette. “Fingers crossed, it's not too long. Any absence with a player of Sven's qualities, especially with the injuries that he has had, is a blow for us. So, fingers crossed.”

Botman has missed a lot of football over the past couple of seasons due to three separate knee injuries, including two to his anterior cruciate ligament during the 2023/24 season.
The Everton match was the first game Botman had missed this season and the first Premier League match he hadn’t featured in since the 3-2 loss against Liverpool back in August.
Next up for Newcastle is Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Tuesday night (8:15pm kick-off). They then face Burnley at St James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off) before flying off to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
