The Magpies added great quality to their squad in summer, making it two successful transfer windows in a row following last year’s efforts in the winter window.
A new transfer window now offers Newcastle yet another chance to strengthen, however in order to do that, then they will have to offload some players from a full 25-man squad.
Unlike last year where Eddie Howe had to leave a handful of players out of his squad, Newcastle have just two senior players unregistered this season - goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and long-term injury absentee Emil Krafth.
However, if they were to sign anyone in January, then another player will have to be left out of the squad - and potentially sold.
With that in mind, here, we take a look at ten players that could leave Newcastle United in January and three that won’t:
5. Jamal Lewis
Lewis hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot and simply hasn’t lived up to his potential in the north east. A fresh start elsewhere may be what is needed for the defender to reignite his career. Photo: Stu Forster
6. Jamaal Lascelles
Lascelles remains an important member of the squad - despite seeing his game time limited this season. At 29, Lascelles may want to be playing regular football at this stage of his career though and had been linked with a move back to Nottingham Forest in summer. Photo: Ian MacNicol
7. Ryan Fraser
Fraser’s Newcastle career just hasn’t hit the heights that was promised upon his arrival from Bournemouth. The form of Miguel Almiron also means there doesn’t seem to be a clear route back into the first-team. Southampton have been linked with a move for Fraser in January. Photo: Jan Kruger
8. Jay Turner-Cook
