Today, the North East club stated Matt Ritchie has had a second ankle operation – and will not play again this year.

It has been revealed that Ritchie has had further surgery this week but could return in January.

The Newcastle United winger has been out since late August after suffering an ankle injury against Leicester City after a strong challenge by Hamza Choudhury.

And Geordies were quick to react to the news on Twitter, with many pointing the finger of blame at the Leicester City man after such a rash tackle.
