Here we take a look at the 17 players who could face the axe at St James’s Park, whether Spaniard Benitez stays or not.
13. Rob Elliot
Was handed a new deal by Rafa Benitez but is seen very much as fourth choice. Will leave this summer, if the manager has anything to do with it. Photo: Stu Forster
14. Jack Colback
Nottingham Forest have cooled their interest in the player who has one year left on a lucrative deal at Newcastle United. If Rafa Benitez remains he's got no future, but under another manager, who knows? Photo: Stu Forster
15. Henri Saivet
It's game over for Saivet at Newcastle United. Will be sold, if there are any takers. Otherwise another year on loan in the wilderness awaits for the midfielder. Photo: Catherine Ivill
16. Rolando Aarons
A player not rated at all by manager Rafa Benitez. Did well in his short time at Sheffield Wednesday and that deal could be made permanent, depending on the finances. Photo: Stu Forster
