That is because there are a number of former United players called up to their respective nations to feature at this summer’s eagerly-anticipated national tournament.
Some of the names may surprise you, after leaving the St James’s Park at different stages of their careers.

1. Valentino Lazaro - Austria
The 25-year-old featured 15 times for United during his half-season loan spell in the 2019/20 season before enjoying a temporary spell at Borussia Monchengladbach in 2020/21.

2. Moussa Sissoko - France
Although he didn’t enjoy the best of campaigns at Tottenham, the 31-year-old has been selected for Didier Deschamps' squad, though is unlikely to be a starter.

3. Matz Sels - Belgium
Sels, who is third choice behind Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and former Sunderland man Simon Mignolet, flopped at Newcastle - making just 14 appearances after being signed by Rafa Benitez in 2016.

4. Tim Krul - Netherlands
Krul will rival AZ Alkmaar’s Marco Bizot and Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg for a starting spot having helped Norwich City to Premier League promotion.
