With an injury crisis having gripped the Magpies in recent weeks, several under-23 players are set to given the chance to shine at Spotland.
Here, we take a look at who could be in contention for a role of some sorts in the third round – with NINE youngsters in the frame for a first-team call-up:
5. Jamie Sterry
Another who isn't involved against the Cottagers, Sterry has a host of first-team experiences both at St James's Park and while away on loan. He could prove a reliable option for Bruce Photo: Ian MacNicol
6. Joe White
Well-regarded by the academy staff at Newcastle, White was expected to be an under-18 player this term - but his performances have quickly seen him rise through the ranks. A first-team debut may not be out the question. Photo: Nick Taylor/Liverpool FC
7. Elias Sorensen
Sorensen was an unused substitute in the FA Cup for Carlisle United earlier this term, so is eligible to play against Rochdale. It would be a shock if he wasn't part of the travelling party - especially given his omission from the under-23 side. Photo: Fred Lee
8. Victor Fernandez
After returning from a long-term injury, Fernandez has impressed in the under-23 side - and may prove a tempting option for Bruce at Rochdale. Photo: Stu Forster
