The world governing body have recommended that all contracts set to expire on June 30 be automatically extended until the 2019/20 season finishes.
But what does that mean for Newcastle? Here, we take a look at the players set to be handed an automatic extension to their current deals under these new plans:
5. ANDY CARROLL
The experienced striker is yet to score since returning to St James’s Park in the summer - but now looks set to have some extra time to break his duck with his season-long deal set to be automatically extended. Photo: Ian MacNicol
6. JAMIE STERRY
The young full-back is another who will now remain with the Magpies until the season is concluded. His longer-term future remains uncertain, though. Photo: Ian MacNicol
7. NATHAN HARKER
Having spent time on trial with Sunderland earlier this year, Harker’s future looks to be away from St James’s Park - but he too will likely see his contract extended until the point where the current season is concluded. Photo: Nick Taylor/Liverpool FC
8. VALENTINO LAZARO
FIFA have also advised that all current loan deals be automatically extended until the end of the campaign - meaning that Lazaro looks set to stay with Newcastle until their final game is played. Photo: Stu Forster
