Victories against Manchester United have been hard to come by for Newcastle United, but when they do come, they tend to be very memorable.

Newcastle United’s last 10 victories against Saturday’s opponents span 32 years with some of the winning goals in that time being scored by Glenn Roeder, Alan Shearer and Matty Longstaff.
In fact, none of the current squad were born before the earliest two entries on this list - although Steve Bruce did feature against Newcastle in one of those games.
Furthermore, only once in the last 48 years have Newcastle been victorious at Old Trafford, not a good omen for Saturday’s encounter.
After failing to win any of their four games before the international break, it may seem all doom-and-gloom around Newcastle United ahead of the weekend’s fixture.
However, here we aim to remind you of some of the better times Newcastle have had against Manchester United - and there have certainly been plenty of those:

5. 15 September 2001: Newcastle United 4 - 3 Manchester United
On what was Sir Bobby Robson’s 100th game in charge of Newcastle, Laurent Robert’s superb free-kick kick-started a memorable day at St James’s Park. After being 3-1 ahead, it looked like Newcastle had thrown the game away but a Wes Brown own-goal saw the Toon run out winners. Oh and that Roy Keane red-card also happened. 6. 12 February 2000: Newcastle United 3 - 0 Newcastle United
A superb Duncan Ferguson volley was supported by a brace from Alan Shearer as Newcastle defeated a Manchester United side that had beaten them at Wembley in the FA Cup final just eight-months previous.

7. 20 October 1996: Newcastle United 5 - 0 Manchester United

8. 26 October 1994: Newcastle United 2 - 0 Manchester United
The visitors played eight teenagers for this Coca Cola cup tie and almost grabbed a draw, however, Phillipe Albert’s header, his first goal for Newcastle and a Paul Kitson goal late in the day was enough to secure Kevin Keegan’s side passage into the next round.
