The consortium, made up of Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners, Reuben Brothers and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, pulled the plug on the Mike Ashley buy out, blaming the changing economic situation around the planet as well as the time taken by the top flight to conduct their owners and directors tests.

And White relayed some positive information from Staveley this afternoon, despite the negativity around the failure of her second takeover bid.

"Time up. It has taken too long,” said White.

"The bid was real, it has been there all the time and Ashley agreed to it.

"They tell me today they were going to allocate £250 million more for the club, the academy and the community. Now that is all gone.

"Having said that, as Amanda Staveley said ‘goodbye, I’ll speak to you later’ she said ‘get it out there, we will not give up’.”
