West Ham among favourites to sign £22m ex-Newcastle United star, Man Utd close in on £8m ace

Newcastle United are hard at work behind the scenes preparing for next season, as they look to secure some fresh talent when the summer transfer window opens next month.

While no Magpies players were called up for England' s Euro 2020 preliminary squad, Gareth Southgate did reveal that Newcastle's assistant coach Graeme Jones will join his team for the tournament.

The England boss said: “We’re really pleased to be able to bring Graeme Jones in who is obviously working with Newcastle at the moment.

“I’ve known Graeme quite a while – he’s got fantastic experiences of tournament football of course with Belgium and Roberto Martinez.

"He’s got great experiences as an assistant manager and manager, so I’m really pleased that with Steve Holland and Graeme, Martyn Margetson – who has been to semi-finals with us and Wales – and with Chris Powell that we’ve got a really strong coaching team. We’re really looking forward to that challenge.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle loan star Joe Willock has been nominated for the Premier League player of the month award, after a dazzling May showing for the Magpies.

After returning to parent club Arsenal, the 21-year-old posted a farewell message on Instagram, where he said: “@nufc family Thank you for rocking with me. I will never forget the love you have showed me, the team, the fans, the city will always hold a special place in my heart #UTM (up the Maggies). Goodbye.”
