Whilst there will be money available to spend on the squad, Eddie Howe has tempered expectations by reiterating that it will be a case of ‘evolution’ rather than ‘revolution’ next season.
Newcastle have a bloated Premier League squad and so players will have to leave in-order for new faces to join.
Isaac Hayden, Ciaran Clark, Jamal Lewis and Jeff Hendrick were all left out of their 25-man squad in January whilst the need for improvements this summer may also have a few others sweating over their future at the club.
With that in mind, here, we take a look at what Eddie Howe’s strongest starting XI could look like based on players that are ‘most likely’ to still be at the club next campaign.

5. LB: Paul Dummett (2023)
Dummett may have not seen much first-team action this season, however, with Matt Targett due to return to Aston Villa at the end of the season and uncertainty over Jamal Lewis’ future, he is Newcastle’s only recognised left-back that is likely to be at the club next season. Photo: Stu Forster

6. CM: Joe Willock (2027)
Willock was Newcastle United’s only summer signing with the 22-year-old signing a five-year contract. Photo: PAUL ELLIS

7. CM: Bruno Guimaraes (2026)
Unlike some of the other January signings, Guimaraes did sign a long-term deal at the club when he joined. The Brazilian has already attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs but he is contracted to the Magpies until the end of the 2025/26 season. Photo: Stu Forster

8. CM: Joelinton (2025)
Joelinton has been superb in the middle of the park for Newcastle this season and is probably one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s team sheet. Photo: Stu Forster
