5. Jose Enrique
Enrique battled a rare brain tumour and thankfully the retired Spaniard is here to tell the tale after making a full recovery. The 34-year-old seems to be taking an interest in TV punditry, occasionally featuring on Sky Sports plus others. Photo: Mike Hewitt

6. James Milner
Milner was controversially sold by Mike Ashley in 2008, and it’s fair to say the Liverpool winger hasn’t done too badly since. His trophy count stands at three Premier League titles, one Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup. 7. Nicky Butt
Butt balances his time between his role as Head of First Team Development at Manchester United, reporting directly to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and co-owning League Two side Salford City. Photo: Mike Hewitt

8. Charles N'Zogbia
N’Zogbia was poised to sign for Nantes in 2016 but his medical discovered an underlying heart problem. He hasn’t played since. Still only 34, he never has officially announced his retirement as he keeps a low profile back in his native France. Photo: Mike Hewitt
