Why Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and six other Newcastle United players are out v Crystal Palace - gallery
Newcastle United’s team to face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup third round at St James’s Park has been confirmed.
Eddie Howe has made eight changes to the Newcastle side that beat Southampton 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday. Nick Pope, Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff are the only three players to keep their place in the starting line-up from the weekend.
NUFC line-up: Pope; Manquillo, Lascelles, Burn, Targett; Shelvey, Longstaff, Joelinton; Anderson, Saint-Maximin, Wood
Subs: Karius, Trippier, Botman, Schar, Lewis, Murphy, Almiron, Willock, Guimaraes
Several first team players have not been included in the matchday squad, here’s why...

1. Alexander Isak - thigh
The striker has been out of action since withdrawing from international duty with Sweden due to a thigh injury. He has received injections and continues to progress with a view to returning to action after the World Cup break.

3. Matt Ritchie - calf
