The 25-year-old – who joined Newcastle in 2012 after leaving Bristol City – was out of contract at the end of the season and was keen to resurrect his career after missing out on a place in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad at the start of the campaign.

He has signed a deal until 2023 with Huddersfield Town, with the club holding the option of a further year.

Head coach Carlos Corberán said: “Rolando is a winger who can play on the right and the left, which is something very positive for the squad; it is important to have players who can cover a couple of positions.

“Technically, he is aggressive in the one vs one situations, he has good balance and he also has the skills to unbalance the opponents.

“He can also help the team to defend, which is something that is very necessary and will help his fast adaptation to our squad.”

Huddersfield’s head of football Operations Leigh Bromby added: “We’re all delighted to complete the signing of Rolando.

“Having been identified through our recruitment process, it was very clear from our early conversations just how determined he is to kick-start his career. That trait in a player’s character is very important to us; we want hungry players who have something to prove.

“Obviously the deal didn’t get done as quickly as we all wanted, but Rolando has been in constant contact since the summer window and has immersed himself in everything to do with Huddersfield Town, including our style of play.

“He will need a little time to become fully acclimatised to Carlos’ demands and to get up to speed having not played competitive games for a good while, but he will be a good addition to the squad.”

The Bristol-born player – who got involved in a contract dispute at Newcastle after breaking into the first-team squad in 2014 – last played a first-team game for the club just over three years ago.

Achraf Lazaar, Christian Atsu and Henri Saivet, also in the final years of their deals, are also available for transfer.
